auf dem alten marktin potsdam entsteht in kürze das mab (museum of advanced biology). es ist mit seinem innovativen themenkomplex zukünftiger und alternativer lebensformen richtungsweisend für die europäische museumslandschaft.
der organische baukörper wird sich in etwa über ein viertel des alten marktes erstrecken und eine organische verbindung zwischen dem potsdam museum, dem museum barberini und dem brandenburgischen landtag schaffen und diffundierend in diese institutionen hineinragen. so entsteht eine osmotische verbindung zwischen den baukörpern und ihren funktionseinheiten. das gebäude und museum schafft ein neues zentrum für potsdam, das weit über die funktion des landtags und der beiden museen hinausgeht. so lässt es die beschränkte politische arbeit des landtags ebenso hinter sich wie die althergebrachten vorstellungen von kunst und die befragung der geschichte zur standortbestimmung der gegenwart. es ermöglicht vielmehr einen ersten ausblick auf die sich andeutende grundsätzliche veränderung der lebenszusammenhänge sowohl politischer, kultureller als auch historisch-gesellschaftspolitischer art.
für das mab wurde ein einzigartiges innovatives finanzierungsmodell entwickelt. über die arbeit des mit dem mab in verbindung stehenden künstlers reiner maria matysik finanzieren 53 ausgewählte finanzstarke und prominente potsdamer förderer diese essentielle institution. sie erwerben für den preis von je 750.000,00 € jeweils eine für sie ausgewählte skulptur aus der serie wesen/being/entities, die dann in der sammlungspräsentation des museums als dauerleihgabe zur verfügung steht.

die offizielle grundsteinlegung des museum of advanced biology fand am 6. september 2015, um 15:25 uhr auf dem alten markt durch prof. dr.-ing. dr. sabine kunst, ministerin für wissenschaft, forschung und kultur in brandenburg und petra stegmann, gründungsdirektorin des museum of advanced biology statt.

auf dem riesigen plakat in der fachhochschule sieht das dann aus, als wäre der grimm’sche griesbrei übergekocht – oder als hätte sich gott die zähne geputzt und den rest zahnpasta genau über dem alten markt ausgespuckt. eine friedliche, weiße, schaumige masse ist es jedenfalls, vielleicht auch überquellendes hirn, das endlich alles zusammendenkt, was die einzelen gebäude vor lauter funktionieren nicht verstehen. „so lässt es die beschränkte politische arbeit des landtags ebenso hinter sich wie die althergebrachten vorstellungen von kunst und die befragung der geschichte zur standortbestimmung der gegenwart“, schreibt matysik.

laying the foundation stone of the museum of advanced biology – a new museum for the centre of potsdam
the mab (museum of advanced biology) will soon be built on the old market square in potsdam. with its innovative thematic complex of future and alternative forms of life, it will point the way for the european museum landscape.
the organic building will extend over about a quarter of the old market square and create an organic connection between the potsdam museum, the museum barberini and the brandenburg state parliament and diffuse into these institutions. thus, an osmotic connection between the buildings and their functional units is created. the building and museum create a new centre for potsdam, which goes far beyond the function of the state parliament and the two museums. it leaves behind the limited political work of the state parliament as well as the traditional ideas of art and the questioning of history in order to define the present. it rather allows a first outlook on the fundamental change of life contexts of political, cultural and historical-socio-political kind.
a unique innovative financing model has been developed for the mab. through the work of the artist reiner maria matysik, who is associated with the mab, 53 selected financially strong and prominent potsdam patrons finance this essential institution. for the price of € 750,000.00 each, they each acquire a sculpture selected for them from the series wesen/being/entities, which is then available on permanent loan in the museum’s collection presentation.

on the huge poster in the university of applied sciences, it looks as if grimm’s porridge had boiled over – or as if god had brushed his teeth and spat out the rest of the toothpaste right over the old market. in any case, it’s a peaceful, white, foamy mass, perhaps also an overflowing brain that is finally thinking together everything that the individual buildings can’t understand for the sake of functioning. „in this way, it leaves behind the limited political work of the state parliament as well as the traditional ideas of art and the questioning of history to determine the location of the present,“ writes matysik.
