the relationship between nature and visual art is the theme of this double exhibition together with jürgen jansen; sculpture and painting enter into a dialogue. the complex work of reiner maria matysik, which enjoys the highest recognition among curators and exhibition houses, came together with jansen’s paintings. for both artists, dealing with nature is not about grasping it aesthetically, but about dealing with it analytically through art. jürgen jansen studied biology before studying painting, and scientific methodology and research into the building blocks of the world have flowed into his artistic work. he describes his paintings as „experimental arrangements“ and, in a constantly renewing work process, develops a painting for which calculation and contingency are equally constitutive. reiner maria matysik develops biomorphic sculptures in different formats and materials, in which he combines scientific knowledge with pictorial thinking. the concept of artistic creation is thereby so strongly approximated to principles of nature that the exciting question remains whether the former does not ultimately dissolve into the latter.
