performance: implant. die pflanze in mir
„the clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness“, erkannte der schottisch-amerikanische naturforscher john muir schon 1890 – lange zeit bevor in den 1960er-jahren das verhältnis von kunst und natur in eine neue phase trat: konzentrierten sich die künstler früherer generationen auf das malerische naturstudium, so begann nun eine intensive, existenzielle und körperliche auseinandersetzung mit der natur. der wald wurde mit dem interesse an handlungsräumen außerhalb von galerien und museen zu einer umgebung, die am eigenen körper erfahren und in den künstlerischen prozess mit einbezogen wurde. besonders den künstlern mittel- und osteuropas diente die natur als rückzugsraumfür aktivitäten, die im offiziellen kulturleben unerwünscht waren. auf beiden seiten des eisernen vorhangs entwickelte sich ein neues ökologisches bewusstsein.die ausstellung through a forest wilderness nimmt erstmals diesen existenziellen dialog zwischen kunst und wald in den blick. zu sehen sind künstlerische aktionen und minimalistische installationen namhafter künstler aus happening, fluxus, konkreter poesie, konzeptkunst und minimal art. die präsentation umfasst fotografische dokumentationen, rekonstruktionen historischer werke, aktuelle interventionen, filme, performances, führungen und vorträge.das projekt ist nach einer wald-ausstellung in berlin (nikolskoer landpartie) nun im neuen-burger holz (zwischen urwaldstraße und winterweg) und in der kunsthalle wilhelmshaven zu sehen.

performance: implant. the plant in me
„the clearest way into the universe is through a forest wilderness“, the scottish-american naturalist john muir recognised as early as 1890 – long before the relationship between art and nature entered a new phase in the 1960s: while the artists of earlier generations concentrated on the painterly study of nature, they now began an intensive, existential and physical confrontation with nature. with the interest in action spaces outside galleries and museums, the forest became an environment that was experienced in one’s own body and included in the artistic process. especially for the artists of central and eastern europe, nature served as a retreat for activities that were undesirable in official cultural life. a new ecological consciousness developed on both sides of the iron curtain. the exhibition through a forest wilderness is the first to take a look at this existential dialogue between art and the forest. on show are artistic actions and minimalist installations by renowned artists from the worlds of happening, fluxus, concrete poetry, conceptual art and minimal art. the presentation includes photographic documentations, reconstructions of historical works, current interventions, films, performances, guided tours and lectures.after a forest exhibition in berlin (nikolskoer landpartie), the project can now be seen in the neuen-burger holz (between urwaldstraße and winterweg) and in the kunsthalle wilhelmshaven.
