glo­bus colu­rus ist ein bla­sen­we­sen. es ent­spricht einer fle­xi­bel-sta­bi­len hül­le, die vom innen­druck zwei­er fliess­fä­hi­ger medi­en (wässrig/gasförmig) auf­ge­pumpt ist. sein kör­per ist von einer fes­ten, led­ri­gen hül­le wie ein gehäu­se umge­ben. die­se wird jähr­lich abge­legt. unter der epi­der­mis liegt der mäch­ti­ge extra­zel­lu­lä­re gewe­be­teil (matrix), in den drü­sen­zel­len, pig­ment­zel­len, ner­ven­zel­len, das struk­tur­pro­te­in der matrix (col­la­gen­fa­ser) etc. ein­ge­bet­tet sind. der vor­mund (pro­sto­mi­um) ist fast voll­stän­dig von die­sem bin­de­ge­we­be (cutis) gefüllt, hier sitzt auch die kom­ple­xe mus­ku­la­tur. häu­fig stösst es sei­nen vor­mund samt anhangs­ge­bil­den (und para­si­ten) ab und lässt im lau­fe von wochen einen neu­en wach­sen. wäh­rend klei­ne­re beu­te direkt getö­tet wird, nut­zen die orga­nis­men bei grös­se­ren tie­ren eine leim­ar­ti­ge und stark pro­te­in­hal­ti­ge flüs­sig­keit, die von den schleim­drü­sen pro­du­ziert wird und die opfer unbe­weg­lich macht. sie wird ver­spritzt und här­tet sehr schnell aus, sodass sich die beu­te in der stark kleb­ri­gen sub­stanz verfängt.

glo­bus colu­rus is a bubble crea­tu­re. it resem­bles a fle­xi-sta­ble shell which is infla­ted by the inner pres­su­re of two flu­id medi­ums: water and air. it can release a solid, lea­thery shell from its body, which sepa­ra­tes from the body and sur­rounds it like a casing. under the epi­der­mis lies the migh­ty extra-cel­lu­lar tis­sue part (matrix), in which gland-cells, pig­ment-cells, ner­ve-cells and the struc­tu­ral pro­te­in of the matrix (col­la­gen fibers) are embedded. the fron­tal mouth is fil­led almost com­ple­te­ly with this con­nec­ti­ve tis­sue (cutis); it also con­ta­ins com­plex mus­cles the­re. while smal­ler prey is kil­led imme­dia­te­ly, they use a glue-like and strong pro­te­in-con­tai­ning liquid, which is pro­du­ced by the mucous glands, in order to ren­der their vic­tims immo­bi­le. it sprays through the pores of the oral papil­lae and dries very quick­ly, so that the prey is caught in the adhe­si­ve sub­s­tance and is final­ly immobilized.
